What are social support networks?
🤝 What are mental health social support networks? They refer to the social and emotional environment of people, to their networks of relationships. One way or another, we are all part of it. We all need an emotional environment that provides us with love, support and support for our own well-being. Our families stand out in particular, understanding that the family includes those people with whom we share close and continuous emotional ties. Having a social and affective environment is a key element in the mental health recovery process.
Why is research on mental health social support networks important? Because people with lived experience in mental health and their families claim the importance and effectiveness of social support networks as facilitators of the processes of recovery and improvement of quality of life. Networks act as a preventive factor in situations of isolation and social exclusion. Scientific research on the role of the family and other social support networks in the recovery process is still relatively scarce, lacking evidence.
